Compressor oil cooling is a cooling method that uses lubricating oil as the cooling medium. Through a circulation system, the oil removes heat generated during compression and keeps the compressor operating within a reasonable temperature range.
1. Working Principle
The oil cooling system introduces cooling oil into the compressor heat exchanger through a circulating oil loop to carry away heat generated during compression. In practice, the oil continuously circulates between internal passages and the external cooling network connected by oil pipes, providing a stable cooling effect.

Under high-temperature, high-load, and continuous-duty conditions, oil cooling continuously maintains thermal balance and is an important guarantee for reliable compressor operation.
4. Common Problems and Solutions
4.1 High Oil Temperature
Possible causes: lubricant aging or degradation, fouled or blocked cooler tubes/passages, high ambient temperature, poor fit of moving parts, oil temperature sensor failure, insufficient compressor speed, restricted oil return line, discharge pressure below setpoint, and poor oil quality.
Solutions: replace lubricating oil regularly, remove cooler scale and deposits, clean oil mist separator and oil filter, reduce ambient temperature, use high-quality fully synthetic oil, and perform periodic oil analysis.
4.2 Low Oil Temperature
Possible causes: when oil temperature remains too low for long periods, friction in transmission parts may increase, abnormal squealing may occur, and lubrication can become insufficient.
Solutions: improve plant sealing, heating, and insulation; reduce cooling-water flow (for example, to about one-third of original flow where applicable) to weaken overcooling and raise oil temperature; or keep 1 to 2 compressors in continuous operation for more than 3 days so oil temperature rises naturally through mechanical friction.
5. Notes
Lubricant selection: choose high-quality lubricating oil to ensure oil stability and reduce carbon deposits.
Routine maintenance: periodically remove cooler scale, clean oil mist separator and oil filter, and replace lubricating oil to ensure normal operation of the oil cooling system.
Ambient temperature control: avoid excessive ambient heat impact on oil temperature; measures such as roof vent opening and door/window ventilation can help reduce surrounding temperature.
